Just a few moments of inattention, and nothing is ever the same again: Juan and Alma have lost their son Andrés in an accident, and their grief is immeasurable. Juan, in particular, blames himself, for he was the one at home alone with Andrés that night. Overwhelmed by guilt, he flees out to sea in a boat, where he miraculously finds his son brought back to life. Mauricio Chernovetzky skillfully weaves elements of Aztec mythology and magical realism into this story of a man unable to find a way out of his grief, driven solely by the desire to be reunited with his son. Juan goes into hiding with his lost son on a deserted island. Yet Andrés has changed; an insatiable hunger drives the boy, and it seems only Juan can satisfy it. Ready to embrace this second chance as a divine gift, he is forced to realize that some dreamers must pay a heavy price to avoid waking up again. "Sacrificio" immerses the audience in a hypnotically beautiful yet terrifying world of pain, guilt, and longing. A spellbinding piece of genre cinema from Mexico.
