Bruton

Bryan Bruton keeps himself and his family afloat as a small-time drug dealer in Northern Florida. He has more or less come to terms with his life, even considering going straight, but then an argument spirals out of control, an accident occurs, and someone ends up dead. Bruton is sentenced to ten years for it. Ten years during which he will barely see his wife and daughter. Ten years spent among hardened criminals and corrupt guards within the most inhumane penal system in the United States. Yet Bruton adapts; he finds allies behind bars, smuggles phones into the prison and starts to operate a popular pirate radio station from the basement. When Maura, a lonely prison guard, falls for him, he begins plotting his escape. But, as always, life has other plans.

Following »Bang Bang« and last year’s "Spirit of Cinema" winner »Keep Quiet«, Vincent Grashaw returns to Oldenburg for the third consecutive time with this filmic picaresque tale. Under his inspired direction this prison drama, based on a true story, turns into a tragicomic ode to love, friendship, and life.
