Angel of Death

Ed Brubaker conceived and wrote »Angel of Death« for Zoë Bell from the very start, and that is palpable in every scene and every moment she is on screen. The professional killer Eve, whom she embodies, is not merely a typical genre figure of the kind we know from countless films and series. She radiates a unique power, one that reveals itself above all in the action sequences, where Bell, of course, does her own stunts. Yet there is something else, too: a fascinating innocence and vulnerability that only Bell brings to the role. As in many of his legendary graphic novels, Ed Brubaker has created a beautifully stylized noir world for this ostensibly small, low-budget action film. After a job goes completely off the rails, Eve finds herself haunted by the ghosts of her past; the memory of a teenage girl she once shot brings to the surface everything she had previously suppressed. The ice-cold killer transforms into a relentless yet compassionate fighter for justice in a world where honor and humanity supposedly have no place.
