Dark Star
Wednesday, August 26., 8 PM at Polyester
Before the festival trailer flickers across the screen, we're celebrating its source of inspiration: John Carpenter's debut film »Dark Star«.
Doolittle: How do you know you exist?
Bomb #20: Naturally, I exist.
Doolittle: But how do you know you exist?
Bomb #20: It is intuitively obvious.
Doolittle: Intuition is no proof. What concrete evidence do you have that you exist?
Bomb #20: Hmm. Well... I think, therefore I am.
A discourse in phenomenology with a strong-willed bomb, and the blasphemous implication that creation might also mean the end. Carpenter's debut film only gets better with every viewing, a sure sign of a cult classic. The neurotic hippie astronauts, the killer alien vegetable, and of course Bomb #20 are ingredients you can never celebrate enough.
»A berserk combination of space opera, intelligent bombs, and beach balls from other worlds.« Roger Ebert put it pretty well back then.
In cooperation with @klubpolyester, we're screening the film that inspired this year's festival trailer. Plus, there's our exclusive Filmfest cocktail, and admission is free.
