The world is broken. A desolate wasteland of dust, sand, and decay under an unforgiving sun, ruled by people who have lost all sense of humanity. Here lives Mowanza, pregnant after a terrible assault, yet forbidden to terminate the pregnancy, as it is strictly prohibited. Not so in the neighboring state of Iropus—so she sets out with a car and a bottle of water on a road trip across the hostile desert. Along the way, she encounters violence and suffering—but also mercy and the first spark of hope. Yet her destination is still far away. »Under the Burning Sun« tells its human drama in larger-than-life, epic images, repeatedly showing its protagonist tiny against the vast expanse of desert and sky. A cinematic experience equally filled with painful brutality and overwhelming poetry. Post-feminist rage, boldly painted across the screen.
