Rob is a loner who long ago has left civilization behind him, preferring to roam the woods with his beloved truffle pig in search of those rare and expensive fungi that are his livelihood. When two meth addicts break into his cabin one night and steal the pig, his tranquil world collapses. Together with his trufflesalesman Amir, he now goes on a quest to find his four-legged companion, which will lead him to Portland where he, 15 years ago, led a life as a legendary chef, until tragedy intervened and forced him to turn his back on life in the big city. Director Michael Sarnoski‘s feature film debut introduced us to the fictitious subculture of foodie-mobsters, where a meal can be so legendary as to make grown men cry and the fight for rare ingredients can cause serious bodily harm. Nicolas Cage delivers one of his most brilliant performances in years, imbuing Rob with stoic calm, a lifetime of great sadness and one overwhelming goal: he wants his pig back.
