PR 7: Elisabeth Scharang’s „Jack“ to open the 22nd Oldenburg International Film Festival

28.08.15

One winter’s night a girl freezes to death after suffering brutal injuries. Jack is convicted of her murder. When released from prison 15 years later, he becomes an acclaimed writer and well-known ladies’ man, and Vienna’s society celebrates his example of successful social rehabilitation. But questions arise when more and more prostitutes are being found dead. Can a man change that fundamentally?

From murderer of a woman to ladykiller, from jailbird poet to society darling – Jack Unterweger was the talk of the town in early 1990’s Vienna. His suicide following the conviction for multiple murders left many questions unanswered, and 20 years later, his story has not lost any of its mystery.

Focusing on the enigmatic title character, Elisabeth Scharang presents a breathtaking and haunting psychograph. The film stars Johannes Krisch in the leading role opposite Birgit Minichmayr and Corinna Harfouch. The sophisticated imagery and magnificent soundtrack of the film are as fascinatingly enigmatic as its protagonist.

On Wednesday, September 16, at 19:00, "Jack" will open the 22nd Oldenburg International Film Festival with a gala premiere in the presence of the film’s talent.

JACK is a production of EPO and its worldwide sales are handled by Picture Tree International.

After its world premiere at the Locarno Film Festival, JACK will have its North American premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and will bow before its German audience in Oldenburg.
