German Independence Award – Best German Film:

KAPTN OSKAR by Tom Lass

From the statement of the International Jury Bobcat Goldthwait, My-Yung Park, Kasia Karwan, Douglas Buck and Ken Meyer:

„We were certainly impressed by all the German films that we saw. After long deliberations, we reached a very difficult decision, but felt that one film in particular stood out in terms of its unique voice and the risks that it took, and the fact that it succeeded in telling an intimate story with a minimum of resources in a courageous and innovative way..“

Seymour Cassel Award – Outstanding Performance:

MARTINA SCHÖNE-RADUNSKI for her role in KAPTN OSKAR

From the statement of the International Jury: „Seymour played both leading and supporting roles during his illustrious career. As a result the jury felt it appropriate to give this year's award to someone who struck a delicate balance in demonstrating just how important a supporting role can be to the success of a film. Martina Schöne-Radunski is honored for her outstanding performance as „Alex“ in Kaptn Oskar.“

German Independence Award – Best Short Film:

PREIS by Patrick Baumeister

From the statement of the short film jury Arno Frisch, Marcus Popescu und Francois Pavan:

„The jury was impressed by the incredible authenticity, with which Baumeister discovers the vulnerability beneath the harsh exterior of his outsider characters. The film is of documentary precision and at the same time the ease of the actors staying in character is superb, especially by the great Maria Kwiatkowsky. “Preis” is a great little film.”
