Nominees for the “German Independence Award” announced

02.09.10

The opening film THE CITY BELOW (UNTER DIR DIE STADT) is one of four films nominated for the “German Independence Award – Best German Film”. (see previous news for details of this film)

THE DRIFTER (EINE FLEXIBLE FRAU) by Tatjana Turanskyj is an ode to real feminism. Leading actress Mira Partecke takes up the fight with Prada wearing model wannabe feminists and takes on the whole system of so-called equality.

PICCO comes to Oldenburg having won the Film Award of Prime Minister of Saarland. PICCO is hard, uncompromising and authentic. In it director Philip Koch tells the story of the three cellmates Kevin, Andy and Marc who torture another inmate just out of boredom. The film, Koch’s debut, is based on a true story and will be released in Germany by Movienet Film in November.

Alexander Riedel’s THIS WILL BE LIFE (MORGEN DAS LEBEN) is an sensitive portrait of a city and the lost souls inhabiting it. Jochen, Ulrike and Judith are three of these poor individuals who still cling to a seemingly better live they once had. This city drama will be the fourth nominee for the “German Independence Award – Best German Film”.
