SCISSU in Montréal / "Desert Flower" succeeds

On Sunday, September 20th the film SCISSU by director Tom Bewilogua won the “German Independence Award – Best German-language short film”. The jury, consisting of Iris and Tom Sommerlatte and Martin Hornig based their decision on the following criteria: “The film unites many strong points to a surprising ensemble. Visual power, a non-linear narrative style and outstanding actors are interlinked and form an innovative and daring film.” Due to the cooperation of the Oldenburg Filmfest with the Festival du Nouveau Cinéma de Montréal SCISSU will celebrate its Canadian premiere and runs in the competition for the „Loup argenté“ prize. If SCISSU succeeds in Montréal it will qualify for the screening for the Academy Awards in the “Best Shortfilm” category.


»Oldenburg’s opener “Desert Flower” succeeds«

After the festive opening of the Oldenburg Filmfest with “Desert Flower”, Sherry Hormanns film version of the same-titled bestselling novel continues to enthuse the audience. At the renowned San Sebastian Filmfestival it won the audience award. Moreover the film was shown at the Zürich Film Festival and is invited to the Hamptons International Film Festival, which will take place from October 8th to October 12th. Last week “Desert Flower” started with 358 copies in German cinemas. With almost 190.000 visitors on the first weekend “Desert Flower” takes third place in the latest movie charts and is thereby best newcomer of the week.
